COVID-19 Essay
Recently, there has been an epidemic amongst society. There is a virus that has been spread from China to the United States of America. The virus is called the Coronavirus. Due to the Coronavirus, classes have been cancelled physically. Schools are closed, businesses have shut down except for drive-thrus and grocery stores. All of the comotion has made the government make the decision of social distancing. Social distancing is when people stay away from each other to slow the spread of the virus. Social distancing has caused students to stay at home instead of being at school. However, the education system has decided to do online school in order for students to continue learning during the social distancing.
Students are doing online classes and continuing their education through the internet. There are many factors when moving from a face-to-face class to an online class. Many students who have never taken online classes may have a difficult time with this transition. They are used to talking to their teachers when they need help and talking to their friends during lunch time. However, students who have taken online classes are used to not directly speaking to their professors. There are advantages as well as disadvantages to pursuing online classes until April 30th. (The president decided to continue social distancing until April 30th. It was said the plan to continue social distancing will be based on the amount of cases that are reduced.)
The disadvantages of learning through online classes vary from getting help and social skills. For example, if a student needs help with an assignment, the first thing they will do is to try to ask their parents and siblings. If their family is confused, the student will try asking friends. Friends are helpful, but they do not have all of the information to answer questions on the assignment. The student will then try to ask the teacher through email, text, or through an app. However, a teacher is busy dealing with other students, teachers, working on future assignments, and dealing with their families. This can increase the time the student is waiting on a response. However, if a student is in a face-to-face classroom, the student can ask the teacher without having to wait a long time. The teacher can walk towards the student and help them close up.
There are also a few advantages to working in online school that face-to-face classrooms cannot provide such as working in a comfortable place and being with family. When students are in a classroom physically, they are sitting with 25 or more other students in a small area of space. They are also having to wait for the class disruptions to end in order for the teacher to continue with their lessons. However, with online classes, students are able to work without the classroom distractions. Students can do their work quietly. They can also work in the comfort of their own home. They can go to sleep without having to wake up super early. Students are able to have a slow day of relaxation before returning to their classwork and their homework.
In conclusion, face-to-face learning is very different from learning online. The Coronavirus may be stopping us from living normally, but at least our education will remain a little simpler. Being at home and writing this essay has allowed me to stop for breaks and then getting back to work. The good thing is that we are still able to learn. It may be different, but it is also effective.
